Despite every effort made by management to keep them apart, Ryan Jarman (The Cribs) and Jen Turner (Here We Go Magic) met each other at a festival where both were performing. The idea that they may be a bad influence on each other began to seem pretty much on-the-money as they immediately disappeared together to head to the Roppongi area of town, to jangle their keys throughout the underbelly. By the time the sun came up the next morning, they were inseparable. A relationship born in the seediest bars, in the company of tiny marsupials, smeared with lip balm (don't worry, it's not menthol) and lamenting the conundrum of the uneaten banana...

Straight after the trip Ryan packed up and moved to Jen's hometown of Brooklyn, NY to find her temporarily living in a recording studio after being kicked out of her apartment upon leaving Here We Go Magic. As the studio was only in use through daylight hours, the two quickly became nocturnal, spontaneously beginning work on a record together as 'it was the best way to get to know each other.' Nothing was planned. Jarman had said many times he had no plans or desires to ever have another project other than The Cribs, but with the release of The Cribs 'best of' album 'Payola' in 2013, it seems Exclamation Pony came along at the right time. Plus, it just felt natural for the two to work together. It's a band based on chemistry!
