The instantly recognisable anthem ‘Ain't No Sunshine’ gets all of the acclaim it so richly deserves, but tracks like ‘Harlem’ & ‘Better Off Dead’ also warrant kudos for the intensity & maturity of their performances. Even when he's doing covers (such as his stirring, beautiful take on The Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’), Withers treats them as if they are his own compositions & handles them with great delicacy. Other highlights include the bluesy ‘Grandma’s Hands’ & much covered ‘Everybody’s Talkin’. Produced by Booker T. Jones, the album also sounds stunning.
