"Limited Edition White Vinyl, Only 300 Worldwide, Indiviumbered. “The aim has always been to write great records, great albums,” frontman Samuel Holmes says. “To echo our favourites like Revolver, Music From Big Pink, Rumours, Can’t Buy A Thrill and so many more. To release our debut record and mirror the musicians we grew up with is beyond a dream, and most excitingly, only the beginning. We love making music, so to us this is just the tip of the iceberg. This album perfectly introduces us, Night Flight, to the world.”
Bringing together their two previously released EP’s, ‘Wanderlust’, and ‘Carousel’ - with the addition of two brand new unheard tracks, this self-titled debut is something of a consolidation of everything the band have achieved in the past 12 months. What they’ve created in Night Flight however, is a 10-track album which ebbs and flows with the ease, sincerity and passion of a record which has been years in the planning.
Forming the perfect introduction to the band’s considered but organic world of cinematic and three-dimensional alt-rock; Night Flight is star-gazing in its ambition, but human and rooted very much in day-to-day reality. As Holmes puts it, they’re very much “a songwriters’ band”.
“A lot of the writing that I do comes from Nick Drake, John Martyn and Jeff Buckley in its initial state,” says Holmes. “I also take a lot from The Beatles, Big Star, Neil Young, The Rolling Stones and bands like that - but all of our tastes are very eclectic. There are just as many modern influences ranging from R’n’B - to Kurt Vile, Angel Olsen, The War On Drugs, Kevin Morby, and Andy Shauf.”
The result is a classic approach to real song-craftsmanship, but elevated with a modern twist - always adventuring into the new and unexpected. After the world’s warm response to Night Flight’s two EP’s found them fans willing to travel from as far as Brazil and Hong Kong to witness their dramatic and arresting live shows, in sound and content, Night Flight, encapsulates the band and their dreams in one glorious manifesto.
The band’s material to date has been praised across the board from NME, The Independent, DIY Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Notion Magazine, The Wild Honey Pie, KCRW, and Pop Matters, alongside huge support from BBC Introducing, Beats 1, Radio X, Apple Music & Spotify.
Night Flight are: Samuel Holmes (guitar/vocals), Harry Phillips (guitar/backing vocals), Dan Webb (drums) and Ollie Halvorsen (bass).
